Vanaja Ghose

Artist Profile

Unlike many artists, Vanaja started painting late in life while working a full time job. She had always wanted to be an artist and, in 1995, she actually took up a paintbrush to give substance to her dreams. A serious accident in November, 1996, brought these dreams to a sudden halt and it was 1998 by the time she was able to pursue her artistic “career” once again.

Vanaja has attended classes in portraiture at the Ontario College of Arts and Design and has painted landscapes and still life under the instruction of Douglas Purdon and Jay Dampf. She has attended several workshops, including ones at the Haliburton School of the Arts and Bridgewater Retreat, and with well-known artists such as Margaret Roseman, Ken McFarlane, John Leonard, Donna Cameron, and painted plein-air in France with Pauline Holancin and Jake Mol.

Vanaja paints a realistic style in both watercolour and oils. She is a member and participates in the activities and shows of the following artists organizations:

Willowdale Group of Artists
Cedar Ridge Creative Centre

Her paintings have been exhibited in a number of juried group shows. She has also undertaken several commissions for portraits and landscapes.
